The 15th Century Rose & Crown is situated in Ham Lane in the centre of the pretty East Sussex village of Burwash. The pub is owned by Harvey & Son of Lewes, and is run as a tenancy by Gary Skipsey and Lindsey Coates.
Low beams and a glass covered well greet you as you enter the building, to your left the restaurant, to your right the bar.
The bar has a large inglenook fireplace that is lit in the colder months; the restaurant fireplace has a large wood-burning stove.
As you progress through the bar, hunting, musical and advertising memorabilia adorn the walls, (and ceilings!) a focal point being a large beam with brass instruments protruding from it.
The pub has a central bar servery offering four Harvey’s real ales, hand pull scrumpy, and ten wines by the glass.
Food is available every lunchtime and evening with simple dishes such as soup, ploughman’s and sandwiches available lunchtime along with more substantial meals from the chalkboards. On an evening just the chalkboards are offered, usually with about twelve main courses available.
Our informal dining area seats up to forty and is available for special functions, i.e. Funerals, Christenings etc.
We have four letting rooms, which are split into two doubles and two twins. All are en-suite; rates and availability are available on request.
Outside we have two patio areas, one to the front with raised decking and an old silver birch as the central feature. The rear courtyard area is a true walled garden with partially covered gazebo, water feature and many baskets and flowering tubs. You may see the chef in this garden cutting herbs, salad and tomatoes for the kitchen or gathering cobnuts or cherries from the trees in the garden.
